Hi EMSA Community,

As discussed in the CoP meeting 25th June 2025, TERN has released tentative locations for the upcoming EMSA On-ground Training:

  • Far North Queensland, Qld (Cairns and/or Rockhamptom)
  • Perth, WA
  • Port Augusta, SA
  • Wentworth, NSW
  • Hamilton, Vic
  • Launceston, Tas

If you are located near one of these locations, we will be in touch with project managers shortly to refine dates and field locations. Please email emsa_support@adelaide.edu.au if we have missed including you on our planning!

Dates will be released shortly.

To register your interest in attending any of these courses, please complete this form Microsoft Forms

We are still taking nominations for alternative locations - please let us know by completing this form. Ideally to go ahead, the location will be able to attract a minimum of 8 attendees (RDP staff, and their contractors/sub-consultants are able to attend free of charge).

EMSA-Approved Botanist Application Process

As discussed in the CoP meeting 25th June 2025, a new process has been developed to support floristic determinations to be made by regional delivery partners or their contractors. Information was shared via the EMSA Blog in May. The accreditation process is for ecologists and on-ground field staff experienced in plant identification to become EMSA-Approved Botanists, negating the need for plant vouchers to be identified by a Herbarium-based Botanist. Please read the Guidance document and discuss with your project manager, as any use of the modification needs to be discussed with the Long-term Monitoring team first, as it may reduce floristics monitoring rigor and have implications for reporting on project outcomes. If physical vouchers are not being collected in a project, the project manager must seek an exemption from the EMSA Protocol Advisory Group.

If you have already completed Floristics Module surveys additional guidance will be provided.

EMSA Determination Tool - Floristics Module

The Determination Tool is in development. The Tool will enable EMSA-Approved Botanists to assign determined names and floristic records to be updated. To help TERN refine the workflow, if you are using the EMSA Floristics Module - please let us know which scenario best describes your likely use of the Tool by completing this short form.
